SPOKE 1 - Materials for sustainability and ecological transition
WP: 1.1 Advanced materials and processes for a sustainable industrial system
Abstract
Production and characterization of lightweight geopolymer composites containing expanded aggregates. The geopolymer-based composites result appropriate for the production of eco-sustainable tiles, where the geopolymer binder consolidates by chemical reaction which occurs in water-based solution at low temperature. The selected materials result to be suitable for the production of highly reproducible fireproof tiles for insulation purposes in the building sector.
SPOKE 1 - Materials for sustainability and ecological transition
WP: 1.1 Advanced materials and processes for a sustainable industrial system
Abstract
Innovative materials prepared by exploiting polymeric wastes of the industrial production of hollow fiber membranes. Heavy metals ions and organic molecules mixtures including PFAS (CF3-CF14) were considered, and the selectivity of PSU-GO studied by combined adsorption experiments and molecular dynamic simulations. Results were compared to Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) the standard industrial benchmark, and to polysulfone only (PSU) scraps, obtained by the same manual cut process. Remarkably, the maximum adsorption capacity of PSU-GO on lead (Pb) was 10 times higher than that obtained with GAC, and 230 times higher that PSU, while the capacity for PFOA, a compound of great environmental concern, exceeded those of PSU and GAC by a factor 6 and 2, respectively.

WP: 1.5. High performance and/or lightweight materials for green mobility and aerospace
Abstract
The activities focused on the effect of a Ni-9%P + DLC (hydrogenated amorphous carbon, a-C:H) multilayer coating on the material's microstructure, hardness and tensile properties. MUVE (MUlti Layer coatings for additive components in the automotiVE sector) aims to demonstrate the applicability of multilayer coatings to additively manufactured (AM) components made of aluminium alloy and stainless steel by producing: (i) AlSi10Mg high-performance motorbike steering plate, and (ii) AISI 316L screw, with internal channels for cooling/lubricant flow
